Blog Tour: Ryan's Wizard by Beany Sparks

Author Bio:

Beany lives in Western Australia. She first started reading romance novels in 2008, but it wasn't until January 2010 when her Kindle got delivered that the world of erotic romance opened its doors to her, and she hasn't looked back.

With suggestions and support from friends, her muse—“affectionately" known as PITA—was finally able to break free, and in January 2014 her first story was written. Since she can’t put PITA back in his box, Beany has decided to give in and team up with him. Together they’ve made plans to write both MF and MM stories.

Blurb(s):

An alpha ends up with more than he bargained for when he finds his mate...his wizard mate.

After years of no contact, Oliver “Olly” Grey was finally able to reunite with his cousin Aiden. He’s surprised to find that Aiden now has a mate—a male, shifter mate—named Lex. And it’s Lex’s pack mates that Olly is there to help save. What he hadn’t expected was Lex’s brother Ryan.

Ryan Shepherd was happy to have found his brother Lex, and even happier to know that his brother was happily mated. But there is something about Aiden’s cousin Olly that Ryan doesn’t trust, especially when he also smells like the man currently holding his pack members captive. Yet that doesn’t stop Ryan from wanting to hold and comfort the man, and eventually he realizes why—Olly is his mate.

Now the four of them need to plan a rescue mission, but what happens when they run into the two men that had held Lex captive and those same men come to the cabin in the middle of the night?

Interview:

1. If you could be any character male or female from one of your books, who would it be and why?

Hmm…good question.

I’m going to pick a female character (because I can’t pick only one of the boys!) so I pick Grandma Alayna from the Paws and Magic series. Yes, she’s a ghost, and she does the whole creepy floating thing but let’s face it, you could have a lot of fun being a ghost. Plus she’s still got her powers despite being dead, and did I mention she’s a ghost? *winks*

2. Are you tempted to write in other genres?

So far I’ve written three shifter books, one contemporary and one merman book. I’m also going to write a vampire story for NaNoWriMo (eeeeeep!).

I think paranormal stories will be where I spend most of my time because I can make up anything I want, mwahahahaha *cough* Uh, what was I saying? Oh that’s right, I was saying how I can make up the rules. Having said that though, if a plot bunny hops along and it’s for a different genre then I’m happy to grab it. I will give it a nice room with food, water and viewing windows to all of the other plot bunnies, but no unsupervised visits (the last thing I want is for them to multiply!).

3. Do you have a favourite book that you've written?

Not really since I’ve only written *pauses and counts stories* five books so far this year. *pauses and blinks* Wow, I’ve written five books already? When did that happen? *looks around*

But really, all five stories are different, I don’t think I could pick a favourite right now.

4. Are you a plotter or a pantser?

You have no idea how much I wish I was a plotter. Unfortunately as soon as I try to plot storylines, characters, ANYTHING, PITA gets cranky and throws a tantrum. The tantrum is followed by random twists and turns and then I’m sitting there looking at the story and wondering where exactly it was that I lost control.

(I know I never really have any control of the story but please, let me keep my delusion!)

5. Is there a character in any of your books that you didn't plan on, a character who sort of "forced " their way into the story?
Can I say all of them? LOL

But seriously, all of them. Aiden’s Shepherd (Paws and Magic 1) was meant to be a standalone, then as the story progressed I realised it was going to be a series, but I only knew there would be at least three stories. At the end of Ryan’s Wizard (Paws and Magic 2) I had twelve eager little shifters wanting their story told and one annoying muse clapping happily *glares*

I’ve also got a Christmas story coming up that was meant to be a standalone…until the secondary characters stood there with their arms crossed, glaring at me for their HEA. Their story is now booked for February *sigh*

6. Bonus question: You have the best name ever. Is it a pen name? And if so, how did you come up with it?

Aww thank you :-)

It is a pen name actually. Of all the nicknames I have, and had, Beany was always my favourite. My sister was the one that started calling me Beany and then eventually some others started using it. When I was coming up with my author name I knew I’d use Beany because at that point I’d already had my Beany Facebook account for a while and people knew me as Beany. Coming up with the surname was tricky. I wanted something starting with S but I had no name in mind. Then one day I went to pick a book to read and while I was browsing the bookshelf, a title jumped out at me. It was Sparks by Talia Carmichael and the only thing going through my head was ding ding ding, we have a winner. So I tested it out, saying it and writing it and I went, yup, that’s it. My name is now Beany Sparks.

Excerpt:

Aiden burst out laughing and moved one hand to ruffle Olly’s hair.

“Hey!” Olly exclaimed as he pulled back in order to glare at Aiden, who just smiled bigger and pulled him back into his arms.

“I couldn’t resist,” Aiden said, the laughter evident in his voice.

“Yeah, whatever. Anyway, back to what I was saying, but hopefully without interruptions this time.” Olly looked pointedly at Ryan when he said that. Ryan seemed to be studying him intently, but didn’t utter a word.

Olly looked away and started talking again. “I know where the pack is, or at least, I know where a bunch of canine shifters are being held.”

“How do you know that they’re part of our pack?” Lex asked, sounding like he was trying to restrain his eagerness.

Olly turned to him. “Because I heard a few of the guards talk about how they captured a bunch of them together.”

“And why didn’t you get caught?” Ryan asked, anger in his voice.

“Because,” Olly paused, then sighed. “The house they’re being held in belongs to Walter.”

Aiden gasped and when Olly looked at him, he saw the horror that was on his face.

“How long has Walter had shifters imprisoned on his property?” Aiden asked, outrage in his voice.

“I don’t know for sure, but it would be a number of years.” Olly couldn’t face any of them as he said that.

“Who is this Walter?” Ryan growled.

Olly looked up at him, then looked away as he replied, “My father.”
