Book Blast: Just A Little Unwell by Iyana Jenna
Author Bio:
Iyana writes M/M short stories and novellas. Her works have been published by Evernight Publishing, JMS Books, Books to Go Now, Torquere Press, Bitten Press, Leap of Faith Publishing, Breathless Press, and Alfie Dog Fiction.
Iyana lives in Jakarta, a city famous for its traffic jams, a lot of cars and motorcycles, and people selling stuff on the roads. You can spend two hours on the road going to a place you can reach in half an hour in a normal situation. Thanks to the traffic jams, though, Iyana can come up with a lot of stories, mostly shorties, as she prefers to spend the time during her trips writing into her cell phone rather than sleeping.
Another thing Iyana loves is kitties. Right now she has three of them. Their names are Cil, Horus, and Betsy, and one kitten. When she doesn’t write, she plays with them, or they would play with her when she writes.

Patrick Trafford is pleased with the simple life he has, spending his time tending a tiny garden accompanied by his best friend, Chad, who just happens to be a cockroach. Nevertheless, he can't hide the excitement bubbling in him when a man suddenly appears in the garden.
Damien Abner politely welcomes, albeit somewhat at a loss, Patrick's warm offer to spend time with him. To have a coffee, watch some movie, and dance along with the characters in it.
They begin to date and Patrick has never been happier, though he barely knows who Damien is -- not that it matters to him. For him, being clueless does mean bliss.

Excerpt:
Patrick floats through the following day. When Damien shows up, Patrick takes him immediately to near the TV, sets the video cassette into place, and clutches Damien's hands as they dance. He offers coffee and cookies this time and finally brings his guitar out to the sitting room. Patrick feels a bit uneasy when Damien keeps looking at him instead of his guitar.
"Do you like it?"
"Huh?"
"My guitar."
Confusion flashes across Damien's good-looking face for a second.
"Oh, absolutely." His smile cracks. He shifts on the couch to make space for Patrick. Patrick plops down next to him and begins to sing. It's "More Than Words," one of his favorite songs. Damien listens carefully.
Damien is silent, even after Patrick has stopped singing. His eyes turn soft.
"So, what do you say? What do you think of my voice?" Patrick asks impatiently.
Damien's still quiet. Then he closes his eyes and reaches out a hand. He touches the side of Patrick's face.
Patrick holds his breath and closes his eyes too. He doesn't dare to move. Damien's hand feels so warm and good on his skin.
He lets out a heavy sigh when the hand is gone and opens his eyes.
"That's the most beautiful voice I've ever heard," Damien says.
Patrick doesn't know what to do. He puts aside his guitar -- grabs it back -- lays it down on the table -- takes it back again and holds it close to him. He rocks slowly on the couch.
"Thank you," he murmurs -- not sure whether he is expressing gratitude for the compliment or the touch.
Damien stands up.
"You're leaving?" Patrick asks, disappointed.
"I have other things I need to do, Patrick."
Patrick swallows deep. He turns away. "Okay. It's almost dark anyway and I haven't been to the garden."
"Yeah."
"Will you come again?"
"Do you want me to?"
"I'd love you to."
"So I'll come."
Damien waves and walks away.
As if to remind Patrick he's there, Chad crawls up Patrick's shirt front. Patrick palms him up and puts him on the table.
"Do you like him, too?" Patrick asks.
Chad only chirps.

Sean Maddox has one basic goal: to protect the Northwest Pack. That priority helps him stay grounded—until the day the pack rescues Liam. Suddenly Sean is finding any excuse to be around the sweet, blind shifter. But trying to focus his thoughts on keeping Liam safe and not exploring the whole laundry list of carnal fantasies he's been having is anything but grounding. It doesn't help that Sean's wolf makes it damn clear it believes Liam belongs to him.
From the first deep breath of Sean Maddox's intoxicating scent, all Liam wants to do is strip naked for the sexy beta and let the wolf claim him. Hiding away his desires seems like the best plan, given after a lifetime in captivity Liam is just learning what it means to be free. What does he know about being a mate? More to the point, would Sean even want him if he knew the truth?
As Sean and Liam struggle with their growing craving for each other an old enemy steps out of the shadows. With secrets lurking and fate twisting two worlds together a sacrifice must be made, but can the two mates live with the consequences?

A kangaroo steak.

Excerpt:
“You don’t have to stay here with me,” Liam murmured.
Sean twisted the cap off Liam’s root beer and pressed the condensation-slick bottle to Liam’s hand until his slender fingers curled around it.
“I know,” he responded, studying a drop of moisture slipping off the bottle to make a damp trail along Liam’s hand.
“Guarding me?” After propping the bottle between his thighs, Liam licked the drop that had traveled to the pulsing blue vein of his wrist.
“I can be around you without being part of your protective detail.” Sean swallowed past his suddenly parched throat. The man had no idea how seductive his innocent movements were.
Liam reached out until his hand was on Sean’s thigh. “Just giving you a hard time.”
You have no idea.

Enter Cody Bellstrom, easygoing bisexual musician, who is happy to initiate Brent in the ways of gay sex. Brent now has a new problem: he realizes he’s gay and no one in his life knows it. Cody tires of hiding their relationship, but Brent finds it challenging to come out to family, friends, and especially to Graham. In the end, Brent must confront the truth of where – and with whom – his heart lies.
Categories: Bisexual, Contemporary, Erotica, Gay Fiction, M/M Romance
Interview:
1. What got you started into writing?
Getting involved in a fandom several years ago. I’ve always loved gay characters and the idea of men being with men. I began reading fanfic and got inspired to start writing fiction. Having the community of writers and readers on LiveJournal was so helpful. I got instant feedback and was part of a network of writers who were generous with their advice and critiques.
2. Of all the places you’ve travelled, what is your favorite?
San Francisco. There is something magical about the light there. I noticed it again when I visited this past September. I love that the city is bordered by the waters of San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. I love the sound of the cable cars ringing their bells and the fog horns on the Bay. I love the distinct neighborhoods and ethnicities. San Francisco is a relatively small city and it’s easy to get around on public transportation. It’s got great hills for walking and wonderful food. And lots of gay guys!
3. Which of your characters is most precious to you? Which is the most wild?
Assuming you’re asking about all of my characters from any story, I’d have to say that Aidan Emery from Serpentine Walls and Aidan’s Journey is both. He is precious to me because his journey was such a long and arduous one from being the wild thing and “manwhore” of his college days to being the centered actor and loving partner he becomes by the end of Aidan’s Journey. And of all my characters, I’d say Aidan was also the most wild during his days of debauchery.
4. What is the best part about being a m/m author?
Exploring worlds that are not part of my experience. Being able to get lost in those worlds. Having happy endings. Watching my characters grow and evolve and be able to let love in.
I just saw this on Twitter and it says in a different way what I love about being a writer (and a reader):
“The walls of books around him formed a kind of insulation against the present world and its disasters.” ― Ross Macdonald
5. What are you working on now?
I’m working on the third novel in the Serpentine Series now, with a projected release date of August, and hope to have a fourth one out by the end of this year. The third one has Jed Carter from Serpentine Walls as the main character. If you haven’t read Serpentine Walls, Jed is the nice, shy guy that the main character Pete starts a “friends with benefits” relationship with, even though Jed would like more. Readers identified with Jed and I wanted to write a book where he gets his own happy ending.
At first I was going to have his love interest be Tucker, the sexy college roommate of Jed’s older brother, but Jed was getting lost again in being this less flashy, kind of boring guy in contrast to Tucker. So I changed the love interest to a guy his own age, Charlie, who is a “townie,” which is what U.Va. students call kids who live in Charlottesville and don’t go to the University.
Not only is Charlie a “townie” but he’s biracial and he and his family are part of the black community in Charlottesville, with church being a large part of Charlie’s life. Charlie’s cousin, Morocco, is transgender and she has her own storyline going on. I’m excited to have a person of color as a main character and a transgender person as a significant secondary character.
Excerpt: As Brent sat cross-legged on a pillow, tearing pieces off the rubbery bread and dipping them into various dishes he couldn’t identify, he realized he was having more fun than he’d had in ages. Along with being thoughtful and smart, Graham was one of the most hilarious people he’d ever met, and Brent was in stitches for most of their lunch.
“If only my dates could be like this,” Brent said, after another bout of laughter between them, then widened his eyes. “Oh, wow, man, that sounded dumb.”
Graham didn’t seem fazed. “They’re not? But why? You’re so fun to talk to. Any woman would be nuts not to appreciate you.”
“Uh, well, tell them that. But I guess I don’t really appreciate them either. I don’t know, it’s like, awkward and boring most of the time. Whatever. Ari keeps trying to set me up, but…. Anyway, how did this get into talking about my love life, or lack thereof?”
Graham regarded him, warmth in his eyes, and said softly, “You’ll find it, Brent. Everyone deserves to have love in their life. You’re young. You’ll find it.”
Graham’s words touched Brent, but the intensity of the moment made him uncomfortable. Even worse, he noticed he was getting aroused.
He shifted on his pillow with a weak laugh. “Hey, no more of this ‘young’ crap, okay? You’re not that much older than I am.”

Excerpt:
Again, I questioned my sanity. Something was odd in my world for sure. My heart was beating double time when he finally turned onto my street. A quick escape was my best bet. I had my fingers wrapped around the car door handle and was ready to rip my
other hand from his grasp when he slowed down. He must have sensed my intent to bolt, because he held on to me until I was forced to give him a “what the fuck?” look.
“Let me walk you to your door.”
“Jake, let’s not do this. Please. I really don’t want this evening to get any weirder than it already has been. Thank you for tonight. For dinner and pretending to—”
“Hey, nothing is weird here. It’s dark, and I’m walking you to your door—”
“I’m a big boy. I’ve got this.” I detached my hand from his grip and opened the door.
“Thanks again.”
When I reached the sidewalk, he was waiting for me. The man obviously was hard of hearing.
“You are stubborn.” I gave him my best evil eye before I trudged up the path ahead of him.
“Me? You’re the difficult one. I’m trying to be nice—”
“You don’t have to prove you’re nice to me. I get it. That doesn’t mean—suit yourself.”
“Humor me.”
I fished my key from my pocket as I approached the well-lit front porch.
“Here I am, safe and sound. No need for worry,” I said flippantly as I turned to Jake.
“You ca—”
I swallowed my words. He was closer than I expected. Much closer. I felt the warmth from his body but wasn’t prepared for the hunger I saw in his eyes. I licked my bottom lip nervously. I knew what was going to happen, and though I wasn’t sure it was a good idea, I wasn’t going to stop him. He bent slightly and brushed his nose against mine. I felt his breath on my lips as I waited for him to close the distance between us. Neither of us moved. He smelled delicious, that intoxicating combination of soap and a hint of musky cologne I’d noticed the morning he hugged me in my kitchen. I could have happily buried my nose in his shirt or in the curve where his neck met his shoulders. I closed my eyes and leaned in the tiniest bit closer, expecting him to take over. He still didn’t move.
“Aren’t you going to ki—”
And then he pounced. He crashed his mouth over mine and snaked his arms around my waist, fusing our bodies together. His hands traveled up and down my back while he licked a sensual line across the seam of my lips, requesting entry. I heard myself moan as his tongue danced and collided with mine in a lustful assault. I arched into him instinctively. Jake lowered his hands to my ass, drawing me in tightly as he thrust his hips forward. The friction was hot, and his demanding kisses had my head reeling. This was nothing like our frantic make-out sessions years ago.
Just as that errant thought surfaced to remind me whom I was grinding against like a teenager on my front porch, Jake turned his full attention to my mouth. I was painfully hard, but he was right. We shouldn’t be doing any of this. But I couldn’t seem to stop myself. I bit at his jaw and then licked my way to his ear, flicking the lobe gently with my tongue until I felt his teeth at my neck. I made a strangled sound and went limp in his arms. He was overpowering in a subtle, almost unexpected way. I was two seconds away from ripping his shirt when a car went down my street blaring hip-hop music at an obscene volume. I pulled away and rested my forehead against his shoulder. We stood quietly catching our breath for a moment.
Then Jake pressed a soft kiss on my cheek and stepped away. “Good night, Bran. Thank you for… well, just thank you. I’ll see you soon.”
I stared after him like an idiot, watching him open his door and start the SUV. I heard the familiar hum of distant traffic and smelled the fragrant sweet star jasmine from my neighbor’s garden. Everything looked and seemed to be in place, but something was different.

When Jake Westley relocates to join the WeHo fire department, the last thing he anticipates is reuniting with his secret high school love. Thrilled with the prospect of reconnecting with Bran, Jake feels no guilt in using his charming old dog as an unwitting matchmaker. As they rekindle their friendship, it becomes clear the intense attraction they once felt is stronger than ever. But as hard as they try to leave the past behind, painful memories resurface. Bran will have to confront his fears and consider the possibility that the man he swore was absolutely the wrong one might be perfect after all.

Investigating Love: Rasputin’s Kiss, Evil’s Embrace, and Tarot’s Touch by L M Somerton
Author Bio: L M lives in a small village in the English countryside, surrounded by rolling hills, cows and sheep. She started writing to fill time between jobs and is now firmly and unashamedly addicted.
She loves the English weather, especially the rain, and adores a thunderstorm. She loves good food, warm company and a crackling fire. She's fascinated by the psychology of relationships, especially between men, and her stories contain some subtle (and not so subtle) leanings towards BDSM.

SERIES:
Being thrown together in extreme circumstances is not the best foundation for a relationship. Alex and Conor must juggle the demands of their jobs as police detectives with their personal lives. With Alex as demanding in the bedroom as he is at work, will Conor be able to accept that submission is not weakness. Finding out will be the most important investigation of their lives.
Rasputin’s Kiss:
What if the last thing you felt was the kiss of a knife?
Rasputin’s kiss is lethal. He’s a ghost—killing and disappearing into the night. With few leads and four bodies on his conscience, Detective Inspector Alex Courtney and his team are running on empty and it’s only a matter of time before Rasputin strikes again.
When Alex recruits a young detective to play the part of his boyfriend and provide a tempting target for a killer, he knows he is taking a huge risk. He doesn’t expect Conor Trethuan to be a perfect potential submissive. When their mutual attraction becomes more, Alex has to face the conflict between his possessive instincts and the need to push his young lover into danger.
Investigating their feelings has to come second to investigating the case. There’s no time to decide if what they feel for each other is real. With Rasputin closing in, they may not live to find out.

Evil’s Embrace:
Never underestimate the power of obsession.
After the trauma of the Rasputin case, Detective Inspector Alex Courtney and his boyfriend, Detective Constable Conor Trethuan, are in desperate need of a holiday.
The peace and tranquillity of Cornwall can’t eradicate Conor’s nightmares, though, and the unbearable prospect of losing Alex drives him to confess feelings that he isn’t sure are reciprocated. Alex responds in the best way he knows how—by issuing orders and claiming Conor’s body as well as his heart.
Prematurely recalled to work, they are thrown into a dangerous trafficking case focused on a leather bar with a hardcore reputation, Spikes. Conor is sent in undercover, not knowing that he is only a decoy. When Alex learns that the motivation behind his team’s involvement in the case might not be as straightforward as it seems, he realises that his actions might jeopardise not just their relationship, but Conor’s life, too. A shadowy figure from Conor’s past is about to step into the light.
Tarot’s Touch:
Can truth be found in the cards?
DI Alex Courtney and his lover, DC Conor Trethuan are under enormous pressure as their team investigates an arson case and a murder.
It soon becomes apparent that the two cases are linked and the race is on to find a vicious killer. A tarot card is left with the first victim and the detectives are left to interpret the clues it provides. When Conor receives a note from the killer making reference to another card, the whole team is shaken. Their worst fears are realised when a second body is discovered, along with another tarot card.
Conor suspects he has been followed, then a hit and run leaves him injured. Alex wants nothing more than to wrap his lover up in cotton wool and protect him from the world. But is Conor the killer’s target or just a pawn in a much more sinister game? As the clues come together it seems that the motive for murder might be revenge.

Excerpt:
Conor drew in his breath sharply as something cold and metallic was draped across his chest. He wondered what kind of clamps Alex had selected from his collection. Alex’s warm breath caressed his torso then Alex licked one nipple before sucking and biting until it ached. Conor arched his back, thrusting his cock into Alex’s abdomen, desperate for some friction. Alex edged back, denying him. Conor bit back a curse of frustration then tensed as Alex began screwing a chilly clamp to his hardened nipple. Not the ones with biting little teeth then. These were smooth and unyielding. Not sprung, Alex could tighten them as much as he wanted and they would not give. As the clamp compressed his nipple, the initial pain intensified before fading to a tingling throb of pleasure that radiated downwards towards his groin. Conor still couldn’t help swearing as Alex repeated the process on the other bud.
“Bloody hell! That hurts.”
“I’m sure it does, but it looks perfect. There’s a pretty chain linking the two clamps.”
The chain was immediately tugged in demonstration, and Conor writhed beneath Alex’s touch, his fingers clenching and unclenching as pulses of pain shot through his body.
“Bastard! Stop! It’s too much, Alex.”
“It’s too much, Sir. Please address me properly.” The chain was tweaked again. “We talked about safe words just last week. Remind me of yours.”
Conor panted. It was hard to focus. “Rose to slow down, thorn to stop, Sir.”
“Good. Until you use those words, I get to decide what’s too much for you. I think we have a way to go yet.”
“Sir! Please!” Conor didn’t really know what he was asking for. The pain felt so good. He was desperate for Alex to fill him. He needed to come so much it was all-consuming. His cock throbbed just as much as his nipples and he didn’t want it to stop.

(The excerpt is from the beginning of estrus (or heat) for Dale.)
I tapped my fingers on the armrest and crossed my legs, my foot swinging back and forth. My whole body was tense, and nothing I did relieved the strain.
John patted me on the hand as I shifted once again. “I know you’re worried, Dale, but Jolak’s going to be okay. Christ, you need to calm down. You’re about to climb off the chair. Are you okay? You look kind of flushed.”
“I can’t seem to settle down. I hope I’m not getting sick. I feel funny. Damn, is it hot in here?” I alternated between flushing and sweating from the heat, and then getting goose bumps from the chill. My skin felt odd and tight—as if it didn’t fit me anymore.
Chad stared at me a minute, then rose and walked up to the front of the flyer. John continued to reassure me Jolak would be okay, but I had tuned him out. Suddenly, our ship picked up speed, the stars whipping past in long white lines. I had just opened my mouth to question why we’d shifted into warp, when desire slammed into me.

You’ve been bitten by something radioactive. What power do you get from it?
I want to say something really cool like cure diseases, or stop world hunger. But knowing my luck it would be something really stupid like ‘can levitate plastic only when no one is around’. Or another equally useless super power.
Excerpt:
“Cole. I have a surprise for you. I want you to close your eyes and keep them closed until I tell you to open them.”
Cole looked up from his magazine at the doorway Perry’s voice drifted in from. He put the magazine on his nightstand and closed his eyes.
“They’re closed,” he called out. He wasn’t sure where Perry was in their apartment, but he sounded close.
Rustling and a strange squeaking noise reached his ears. Cole furrowed his brows trying to figure out what Perry was up to and what he was hearing.
“Okay. Go ahead and open your eyes.”
Cole popped his eyes open. He closed them and then re-opened them again. Nope, he still was seeing what was in front of him.
“Perry. Why is there--?”
Perry cut him off before Cole could finish his thought.
“So, we had talked about fantasies and things like that. I told you this was mine. So I’d like to introduce you to Freddy. Freddy, I’d like to introduce you to my boyfriend, Cole.”
Cole smiled at how nervous Perry was. His boyfriend was adorable trying to be brave with his ideas.
“Nice to meet you, um, Freddy. Perry, where did you meet Freddy?”
Perry had a small smile on his face that showed Cole he appreciated he was alright with what was happening.
“Online. I found Freddy on some website. Can’t remember the name now.”
Cole was stunned. His boyfriend didn’t go to those types of websites for any reason. Just meant Perry wanted to have the threesome and was willing to do it without asking one of their friends. Cole was so happy Perry had found a way to have his fantasy.
